Before I visit new places, my number one favorite travel prep is to research if there are any exciting food spots, sustainable concept stores or food markets I shouldn’t miss out on. I go to Berlin quite regularly and not just because it’s super close to my home town Leipzig. To me, Berlin is my vegan food playground. If you cannot find it in Berlin, it doesn’t exist. And let me add here, Berlin never disappoints. Lately it’s also starting to become a true dessert mecca, my donut loving friends. So that’s why this won’t be your usual When Sweet Becomes Healthy dessert post, it explores the sugary (still vegan) side of Berlin and my 3 Top Must-Visit Dessert Spots that I love to go to! So if you are trying to let go of sugar, you might not want to keep reading (oh no, wait – No. 3 is a healthy one!). But if you are up for the dessert tour, let me show you around the capital’s latest dessert eateries to seriously feed your sweet tooth.

Spooning – Cookie Dough
This place definitely answers the questions if you can eat raw cookie dough! Walking into this little shop in Kreuzberg is like walking into personal heaven. A pastel pink minimalistic nook-like café called Spooning sells nothing but cookie dough, toppings and coffee. What else do you need to be happy on a sunny Sunday afternoon? With only a few places to sit Spooning spoils cookie dough lovers with 8 variations (3 of them vegan, yass) like Rocky Road, Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Peanut, Cookies and Dream and Birthday Party. The cookies dough is made without eggs and baking powder and tastes absolutely divine. I tried a good heaping of the Chocolate Peanut Butter and it was crazy good! Start with the smaller cups though, I picked the smallest cookie dough cup and struggled to finish it (probably because we went to Brammibal’s Donuts before, HAHA). But if you are a real cookie dough lover go a for a generous heaping of toppings, Spooning have everything you could ask for!

Brammibal’s Donuts
This is where all the hip kids get their donut fix from nowadays in Berlin. It has taken the capitals donut loving crowd by storm and has deserved its place among the top 3 sweet spots. I was dying to walk in and load my tummy with as many donuts as possible. And yes, I hardly made it through one. But it was a chocolate banana fudge one and I loved every bit(e) of it. In general, Brammibal’s kind of tapped into a niche market when first opening in Berlin because there wasn’t a great alternative to industrially made donuts in Germany. And this is waht they do: mouthwatering handmade donuts. Part of their food philosophy is definitely to promote vegan lifestyle. And to for the millionth time that no animals are needed to make delish food. Every donut is handmade using as many regional products as possible. I would still love to see a healthy donut version here one day, maybe a sugarfree one even? At this stage they don’t offer gluten free options yet, but you will get a fabulous coffee fix instead. PS. Bring your own box for your takeaway donuts!

Rawtastic
A raw dessert place to complete my list of 3 Top Must-Visit Dessert Spots in Berlin! And a healthy one too which is right down my alley! You could go there to have a really tasty raw vegan pizza or a burger even. But you h-a-v-e to go there for their desserts. This cozy place which is filled with wooden tables its food is plated on rustic black slates, stole my heart the moment I walked in. Pick and choose from their daily cake offer ranging from scrumptious blueberry lemon cheesecakes, chocolate caramel slices to matcha avocado cakes. They also have raw crepes (which I had never tried before) made from bananas, linseed, vanilla topped with strawberries and cashew cream, yuuuum! If you can’t decide what to try, go for the sweet platter for 2 featuring a selection of all desserts. If you still cannot get enough of their yummy treats, sign up for their raw dessert workshops to learn how to make your own raw cake.
Oh Nic, we have to go together next time! This looks soooo good!
Sending much love!
