We have another Christmas DIY for you guys! It is week number 3 of the Sustainable Christmas Guide. And this week’s motto is Less is more. Less doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give your friends and family nothing at all for Christmas. To me, this week is more about giving less by gifting practical things. Stuff that everyone needs in their everyday life but vamped up in a cool way. Rosa and I have been making our own cleaning products for ages now! But this year we turn those into glamorous and beautifully scented Christmas cleaning products.
Why should you make your own Christmas cleaning products?
There is something so satisfying about making your own cleaning stuff. I love that it saves you a shitload of money, first of all. It also saves on huge amounts of packaging. And you know exactly what’s in the products you clean and wash with. This way you can be assured that nothing nasty goes into our drinking water too. And while you are at it, you make your cleaning products smell great and cleaning becomes SO MUCH MORE FUN.
The perfect gift for your conscious loved ones
A washing liquid that smells like pine trees? A all purpose cleaner that smells of peppermint and chocolate? A dishwashing liquid that whiffs of cinnamon? Homemade and beautifully crafted, Christmas cleaning products make amazing useful gifts that every conscious friend and family member will appreciate.
As far as ingredients go, you will probably have the majority of ingredients in your pantry already. Vinegar, Curd soap, bicarbonate soda being the most versatile ones. You will not believe how many cleaning products you can actually create form just these 3 ingredients.
Of course, you can take the easy route like we did and get the ingredients in a set from Sauberkasten who is our partner in crime for this DIY. Sauberkasten (which translates into cleaning box) is a small startup that has set their goal to banish all harmful cleaning products from our house holds and replace them with beautifully smelling and effective homemade versions of them. There is even a Christmas version of their classic cleaning box with essential oils of pine tree and mandarine.
Give your cleaning products a Christmas revamp
The DIY for the all purpose cleaner and the dishwashing detergent are super easy and straight forward. As far as equipment goes you only need a mixing bowl, a whisk and a funnel which helps to fill the liquids into a bottle. We used spray bottles from the Sauberkasten online shop but any spray bottle or bottle with a pump attachment will do. Feel free to recycle old hand wash or spray bottles, they work great!
