I am a huge fan of no-bake treats and not only because I have been on the road with our camper van and no-bake treats are just so handy and easy to make. The name says it all, it is just the easiest and most hassle free way to make yourself a little treat. And this, without the stress of keeping accurate baking times, of over or underbaking. You just can’t get it wrong, that’s the beauty of those No-Bake Chocolate Hempies.

I have been wanting to use hemp seeds in my baking as an ingredient for a while now. I am a huge believer in the healing powers and nutritional value that hemp has to offer. They are a great source of plant-based protein and omega 3. And now this makes them an excellent addition to a healthy (and vegan) diet. I use it almost daily for sprinkling on my smoothie bowls or even on savory dishes like salads.

Great nutritional value of the No-Bake Chocolate Hempies
Still it blows my mind that folks mix up hemp seeds with cannabis or the effects that come with it. It is crazy how much of misconception is still attached to the hemp plant in general. I believe it was still just one year ago that hemp seeds were legitimized as a legal food item in New Zealand. But I get it there are so many hemp plants and the cannabis plant just being one of them.
So to make it clear here, hemp seeds do not have any effects on you apart from adding good nutritional value to your diet. In 30 grams of hemp seeds, there are about 9.5 grams of protein. Hemp seeds are a complete source of protein which means that they provide all nine essential amino acids.

- Melt the chocolate and chocolate coat the hempies. Sprinkle the hempies with more hemp seeds, chopped nuts or dried flowers. Let them sit in a cool place for 10 minutes so the chocolate can harden.
There was just one downside of using hemp in my baking or cooking. The taste can sometimes be a bit overpowering if you add too much of it. Therefore, for this recipe, I paired the hemp seeds with almond flour or ground almonds) to balance out the flavors nicely.
