We only came back from Morocco a couple of weeks ago and I still cannot believe that we actually took the plunge into this adventure. But compared to what we experienced in Europe, camping in Morocco was a totally different ballgame. Wild camping wasn’t as easy as we thought and finding a great camp spot with good facilities was easy a daily filling challenge. So for all of you wanting to tackle this adventure, I have listed the creme de la creme of our Favorite Camp Spots in Morocco! Most places we found through the app Park4night, which works great in Morocco or through our traveller network.
Paradis Nomade Maison d’hôtes Agadir (campground)
This place is literally in the middle of nowhere, until you are actually there you would think there are inly villages around. The paradise Nomad is. a small hotel with a beautiful garden, some berber tents and some sites for camper vans. The place is in great condition with a crystal clear pool and some sun chairs. There is plenty of space in the garden for yoga or to chill. They also have a restaurant that prepares lunch and dinner on order which is mostly a traditional tajine or couscous on fridays. We found. the prices a bit high at the restaurant for what you get but that was just our perception. The restaurant also serves alcohol which is hard to come by in Morocco sometimes.
Cost: 100 Dirham per night, showers included, without electricity. Find the location here.
L’Arganier d’Ammelne, Tafraoute (campground)
This was probably on top of the list of my Favorite Camp Spots in Morocco. This place is framed by sweeping views of the Anti-Atlas Mountains. The cozy campground is located just 2km before Tafraoute. There is not a lot of space for campers (maybe 12) but the stunning views, the pool and the roof top terrace (which is perfect for yoga sessions) totally made up for it. There is also a restaurant onsite and some rooms as well. Shower facilities are basic but clean. The wifi is pretty strong at the reception which is a bonus in Morocco. The staff is super helpful and you can also take some good walks to close by villages. Plus Tafraoute is is close proximity and one of the coolest places in Morocco and worth an extended visit.
Cost: 65 Dirham, showers are extra (10 Dirham), without electricity. Find the location here.
Auberge Camping Atlas, Todra Gorge (campground)
At first sight, this camp ground didn’t seem great cause it is fairly small and can feel a bit crowded but slowly we figured what a great place this is and extended our stay actually a couple of times. This place is great if you need a proper break from the Moroccan craziness. The staff is super friendly and the hot showers were the best we had at a camp ground. Also WIFI works great, and check out that beauty of a pool which was our daily hang out. The camp ground also has a small restaurant on site which looked good but we never actually tried something here. The camp site is a bit out of town so for a big market shop, it is a 9km drive into town.
Cost: 70 Dirham per night, without electricity. Find the location here.
Tata Desert Camels (wild camp spot)
When it comes to wild camp spots, this was easily one of my Favorite Camp Spots in Morocco. Right by the highway but behind a hill which means you remain entirely unseen and unheard during your stay. It is a huge desert plateau with hard surface so no danger of getting stuck with your van. A nomad family stays close with a huge herd of goats and dromedaries. But the family didn’t seem bothered by us and the space is huge. When we were there the dromedaries just had a bunch of babies that came seriously close to our camper van. Setting up a camp fire is no problem but make sure you buy fire wood cause there are just a few dry Argan trees around.
Cost: FREE but no facilities of course. Find the location here.
Ifrane National Park Forest (wild camp spot)
We found this place by accident on a hunt for a camp spot in the wild. This place comes with a bit with a story and you can decide if its for you or not. When we arrived here, we parked pretty close to the road where we obviously got a lot of attention from locals wanting to talk to us. But when we moved the van a bit more into the forest, people could not see us even when we lit up the camp fire at night. The only downside I have to mention here is that the place was pretty trashed. But it was so peaceful and beautiful that we decided to fill 3 big trash bags and clean up our newly found camp spot. Still, once cleaned we had an amazing quiet night here.
Cost: FREE but no facilities of course. Find the location here.
Les rochers peintures Tafraoute (wild camp spot)
The Painted Rocks was a magical sight in itself. And lucky you, you can actually camp here too. The area around the rocks is huge and there are plenty beautiful spots to choose from all dotted around the rocks. There is plenty of space for bonfires with amazing views of the rocks that you can climb. No doubt, it is a super cool photo location too. There wasn’t a lot of shade so in summer it might get pretty hot. This place is so magical and I wished we had more time to spent here. Huge recommendation!
Cost: FREE but no facilities of course. Find the location here.
Oase Ait Monsour (wild camp spot)
This spot is not entirely free as we paid 20 Dirham per night to a lady from the community in the oasis. And boy, how cool is it it sleep right in an oasis under the stars? The huge palm trees give a lot of shade and the perfect opportunity to set up your hammock here. A couple of cafes are close by and offer breakfast on the roof top terrace overlooking the oasis. Unfortunately, it is not allowed to set up bonfires here. There are also no facilities but there is a water fountain with spring water close by.
Cost: 20 Dirham per night, without electricity. Find the location here.
Dunes M’hamid/Zagora (wild camp spot)
Even if you cannot drive right into the sand dunes, you can set up your camp here anywhere. We found this place shaded by a tree and still safe to drive on. It can get pretty windy around here so make sure to park in a way to shield the wind off. It’s the perfect spot for camp fires but make sure to bring fire wood. Sunsets are crazy beautiful here.
Cost: FREE but no facilities of course. Find the location here.
