Hi! Welcome to When Sweet Becomes Healthy (WSBH), I’m so happy you’re here! This is me, Nic and I am the creative head and photographer behind When Sweet Becomes Healthy. So you are interested in my health story and who the face behind When Sweet Becomes Healthy really is, you have come to the right place.
MY JOURNEY
My story probably starts like yours, although with different characters, timeline, and a subset of struggles. Growing up in Germany in a farm-surrounded village, I learnt pretty early what real food tasted like and how much fun it is poking your head out of the raspberry bush while munching on a handful. I loved animals so much my grandparents were scared to death watching that brave kid throwing itself in-between the group of newborn piglets to give them a good cuddle. Although I struggled with bad digestion and a lack of energy from a very young age, I never doubted my parents’ choice of food and the food industry in general. I thought I lived a reasonable healthy life.

MOVING TO NEW ZEALAND
At the age of 25 I moved to Auckland/New Zealand to do my Master’s. Surprisingly, that tiny country at the very end of the world seriously taught me how to embrace life, food and nutrition – and it still does until today. My food journey reached a tipping point when my student visa was almost declined due to a skyhigh cholesterol level. I was a vegetarian back then, doing my boxing work out regularly and I was far away from being overweight. What was influencing my otherwise great health was the intake of huge amounts of dairy.
I finally started educating myself. Years later, travelling the world, finally back in good old Deutschland, I am in my early 30’s, bursting with positive energy and creativity, reporting on my food adventures on When Sweet Becomes Healthy. 99% of my nutritional choices are plantbased. I still do my regular workouts. I don’t like to tell people what to eat but to inspire what’s possible. This is my way of eating – yours can be totally different. My mantra is: only expect tolerance from others if you show tolerance for other people’s way of eating as well.

But apart from my food choices I have chosen a particular way of living for myself. Or let’s say I have chosen to live with a certain mindset. I made the conscious decision to be happy, surround myself with lovely humans, treat people and animals with nothing but respect, be crazy, be wild, throw my chaotic creativity into the world, and be the best version of myself that I can possibly be.
WHEN SWEET BECOMES HEALTHY – OR MY FOOD PHILOSOPHY
I am an optimizer when it comes to food – meaning that whatever I put into my body I want it to contain as much nutrition as possible. Eating desserts and sweets always seemed like a contradiction in itself. Sweets can never be nutritious. As a very regular cake devourer and lover for anything sweet I figured there had to be a different way. And there was. If I tell you, healthy sweets taste even better than highly processed ones would you believe me?

Desserts can nourish your body and mind if you make them right with the right ingredients. So let me take you by the hand and show you how to make sweetness wholesome, nutritious and super delicious. How does that sound? WSBH is the place where I show you how. At WSBH, it’s not about restricting yourself. It’s about being kind to yourself and your body by using the best organic and low processed ingredients to create wholesome sweets.
Please feel free to leave feedback, email me and share your thoughts with me. I can’t wait to hear from you all!
Love,
Nic
