Most people assume that going vegan is close to impossible because they just love cheese way too much. What if I told you there is a creamy, cheesy super easy cheese sauce that doesn’t involve dairy and only your blender as means of preparation? It is made with healthy fats and a good amount of B12? Sounds like a dream? Not a dream but my 3-Ingredient Vegan Cheese Sauce that you should add to your recipe list ASAP!
This sauce literally happened by accident and honestly speaking, due to a lack of ingredients. My pantry was as empty as it gets except for a jar of sunflower seeds. Still, I was so hungry for a satisfying, thick creamy cheesy pasta sauce. You know, the kind of unhealthy sauce that you stay away from when you go plantbased So I had to work with sunflower seeds which was kind of good news as I made creamy sauces with nuts before. Cashews usually work best for creamy sauces but they aren’t an affordable staple. I also prefer to invest in locally grown nuts and seeds. Therefore, sunflower seeds have been my cheap weapon of choice lately, and they make a great basis for my 3-Ingredient Vegan Cheese Sauce.
To the sunflower seeds, I added nutritional yeast which gives the sauce a savory cheese-like flavor. Plus, I love the fact that it adds B12 to your diet in a super easy way. Finally, the last ingredient, oat milk makes your new favorite cheese sauce super creamy.
I love to use oat based milks cause again it’s locally made and the mild flavor is great for a white cheese sauce. To get a super creamy result, it’s best to use a high-speed blender otherwise you might get a clumpy consistency. Blend for about 30 seconds, adjust the spices (I like to add a little nutmeg and paprika, depending on how I feel). Once you have blended the sunflower seeds, nutritional yeast and oat milk, your sauce is literally ready to be mixed with your pot of cooked pasta. If you prefer, you can heat up the pasta with the sauce one more time. But from my experience, the heat from the freshly cooked pasta is more that enough to warm up the sauce.
By all means, this sauce is not only for pasta. It is amazing poured over nachos, as a salad dressing or a dip for veggies! I hope you all enjoyed this easy-peasy 3-Ingredient Vegan Cheese Sauce recipe! For more plant based cheese recipes, scroll down!
