A year ago, I swapped all my conventional cosmetic and skincare products for natural organic products. There are a million good reasons to make that change. But most importantly for me, I love to know what’s in the products that I expose to my skin on a daily basis. It wasn’t an instant swap though, it was more of a transition. And it took a bit of time and. research to make sure that new make-up, body and hair care products lived up to my standards and only contained natural organic ingredients and were also made by trustworthy companies.
But I also starting making some of my own body care products, just because it was fun and so easy. For instance I made a wonderful DIY tooth powder that has replaced my conventional toothpaste. I also started experimenting with cremes and lotions. And this a super easy 2 ingredient Whipped Body Butter is one of my favorites so far.

Making your own skincare products can also be quite a mission. And apart from the time factor, there can be disadvantages to making your own products such as shelf-life. Homemade products won’t last as long as the commercial products as they don’t contain chemical preservatives.
But some products are just too easy to not make them yourself. The inspiration for this 2 ingredient Whipped Body Butter came from my mother who had been dealing with neurodermatitis pretty much most of her life and forced her to experiment with homemade cremes and tinctures. I always figured a body butter has quite a long ingredient list but my mum told me otherwise. Two things you really need are: a high quality organic almond oil (I use one by Primavera) and a piece of solid organic shea butter.

This body butter is a very rich one, so it is best for very dry skin. I love it especially in winter for the whole body but also on my dry feet. I fill mine into a glass container, and create a pretty label with my label maker.
The process is straight forward, you melt the shea butter slowly. Once it has melted, pour in the almond oil. Leave the mixture in the fridge for 20 minutes or until the mixture is half solid. This is where the handheld mixer comes into play to whip your mixture up into a fluffy body butter. We do not add any preservatives here which means the body butter will last round about 3 months.
